May 1 2023 Dr. Karen Bohlin Appointed Research Affiliate to the Human Flourishing Program at Harvard’s Institute for Quantitative Social Science

IIn May 2023, Dr. Karen Bohlin was appointed to the Human Flourishing Program at Harvard’s Institute for Quantitative Social Science to further progress her work on Practical Wisdom. Dr. Bohlin’s leadership, teaching and publications these past twenty-five years all point to the pivotal connection between practical wisdom and human flourishing.

“It was my leadership experience at Boston University and Montrose School, however, that prompted me to think about how we engage the next generation of leaders and mentor them in a formative mindset. Even leaders of organizations with the clearest mission and values affirm that knowing where you want to go doesn’t always tell you how to get here. Practical wisdom is the core DNA of formative leadership. In other words, to be intentional about promoting flourishing in schools, universities, families, or businesses, leaders need that wisdom aimed at taking practical ethical action.”

It was her desire to scale an approach to formative leadership that prompted her to develop,The Practical Wisdom Framework™, a proven  leadership intervention, with  powerful testimony from users on how it shapes  their leadership mindsets and practices. Dr. Bohlin and colleagues will continue to explore the important synergy between practical wisdom and human flourishing and develop a research plan to both measure the impact of The Practical Wisdom Framework™ and trial it in new settings,
